Wheat State Cattle Story

Hi! I'm Josie, founder and proud owner of Wheat State Cattle Company.  I wanted to take a minute for you to get a little more acquainted with me plus, I felt it was important to share my "why"; what made me decide to start a beef company?

I grew up in a  small rural community much like Pratt and as a child, during summer breaks from school, I would visit my grandparents' farm out east of Pratt. Yeah, I knew about farm animals and a little of harvested crop, but that was about the extent of my farming knowledge, a quick introduction; short and brief. By farming community standards I was considered a "city girl", because my "meat and potatoes", so to speak came from the store. right?. Ya see, I really never put much thought into where beef at the meat counter actually came from.  When I needed hamburger I'd just go to the store and grab some, no big deal!

Now, I honestly knew meat came from animals and produce came from plants, but I never submitted to the deep discussion of "how do these products get to the store?" It wasn't until I met my very patient, empathetically amused, husband that I gained a realistic perspective to the world of farming and ranching.  Nicholas, known by most as Nick, is an avid farmer and cattleman to the core.  He grew up farming and  still has a deep passion for it.  How does that saying go? "You can take a boy out of the farm, but ya can't take the farm out of a boy."  Well maybe that's not quite it, but you get the idea and as his wife I got a wide eyed crash course in farm operations, and I am all in!

So why the beef company?  When we got married I learned my husband and his parents butchered their own meat and were able to keep their freezer FULL.   This was new to me and so awesome, because I no longer had to run to town for beef (yeah, living in the country means "trips"). Before all of this I never had a thought in the world how that beef got to the store. It was always there when I needed it. Here recently when that historic time fell upon us and beef was scarce, it got me thinking; I have my freezer full of good, farm fresh beef, I should help others have the same? So I got after it and launched Wheat State Cattle Company and I am so excited to share with you the beef we raise and that we also enjoy. Pure, wholesome, grass fed, corn finished beef.  Free from added ingredients, fillers, and colors.
